Green 'Here to Stay'
Go green before your competitors do or before the government forces you to. Those were two of the messages that came out the recent "Capitalizing on Going Green" virtual tradeshow sponsored by ChannelWeb parent Everything Channel.
Addressing the business value of a successful green strategy for solution providers, an HP executive noted that "Where there is value, there is margin. Clients are looking for these solutions,” ChannelWeb quoted Tara Agen, chief of staff for HP's Imaging and Printing Group and a member of HP's environmental market leadership team. “Partners that invest in this will see additional margin."
She added that eco-friendly solutions represent an "explosive" opportunity, ChannelWeb reported.
Tradeshow attendees also heard highlights from a new Gartner study that named green practices among the top priorities of today's IT executives. According to ChannelWeb, Gartner predicts that most Fortune 2000 companies will be seeking green solutions by the first half of 2010.
If business drivers aren’t enough to induce solution providers to think green, the specter of government green regulations could put skeptics over the top, noted Rich Lechner, IBM vice president of IT Optimization and System Software. "This is not something that is going to go away. Partners should make this investment today," he told participants.
