ECM Choices Grow as Prices Fall
There are two pieces of good news for solution providers selling mid-market electronic content management (ECM)solutions as part of their printing and imaging strategies: the range of application choices are bigger than ever and the prices for the software are steadily moving lower.
These are among the conclusions of a new study compiled by content-technologies analyst CMS Watch, based on its analysis of 30 global ECM companies.
"ECM mid-market technology buyers have almost an embarrassment of choices now," says Alan Pelz-Sharpe, lead analyst for the report.
ECM Suites Report 2009 also finds evidence of an interesting trend that offers a growing middleground between solutions based on collections of best-of-breed products and a suite of products within a single platform. The service-oriented architecture movement is enabling point-solution vendors to integrate their products within larger frameworks from vendors such as IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle, CMS Watch says.
This means solution providers can offer their customers the integration advantages of a platform approach while being able to more easily tap specialized components that address specific customer needs.
